Parinacota and Pomerape are twin volcanoes, on the border of Bolivia and Chile. Originally we didn’t plan to climb either og them. But as things were not going very well on the other peaks, at the end of the expedition Boris tried to climb Parinacota solo from Sajama.
Unfortunately he had to stop the attempt at only 150 meter below the summit, due to extreme storm winds.
“The climb started well and I could quickly ascent about 1,000 meter to an altitude of 5,500 meter. After that the wind picked up speed and ever more often I had to brace myself against the fierce wind gusts. When at almost 6,200 meter I was picked up by the wind and put down 5 meter further, it was clear that the conditions were getting too dangerous to continue to the rim of the crater,” said Boris.
