History

Origin of Ice-X

Summer 1999 Peter-Arjen, Ramon & Boris meet for the first time during an NKBV snow & ice climbing course for advanced climbers in the Ortler area in northern Italy. All three of us are from The Hague and it turns out we live close to each other.

After the course we keep in touch and we do a lot of sport climbing together, especially in the indoor climbing hall in Haarlem. During those climbing evenings, expedition ideas are discussed to Aconcagua, Alpamayo and Elbrus. Finally, in 2000, we decide to organize an expedition to Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe. This resulted in the successful Dutch Elbrus Expedition 2000 (Caucasus, Russia, 5,642 meters, July 2000).

Since then we have organized numerous expeditions and projects, given lectures and workshops, and have provided many outdoor enthousiasts with information.
